Dear CASers,

Welcome to CAS where art-lovers can find a community even as non-majors! In the past, we've done various projects from oil painting to book-binding. If you feel that these are any of your favorite activities or even "past times" don't hesitate to come and join us at our weekly meetings.

But more about myself, I'm a junior Biology major hailing from sunny California whose unexpectedly found at home in the snow piles of minnesota! I have experience extensively working with oil paint, acrylic paint, etc. before Carleton and have always wanted to further and share my passions with other students. Through CAS I have met some of the most interesting and warm people (shout out to my fellow board members as well) with a passion for art. If you feel I have mentioned too much art in this letter, fear not! I do have other interests. On campus I am involved in MSO, special olympics, northfield hospital volunteer and many more!

Feel free to contact me with any questions about CAS or finding an art community at Carleton through non-traditional ways,

Yours Truly,

Sarah Min

Anne Hackman

Hi Carls and assorted other folks!

I’m Anne Hackman, the secretary of Carleton Art Society. I’m in the class of 2019, major TBD, and was born and raised in State College, Pennsylvania (can you guess what university is in my hometown?). My role as a secretary is mostly behind-the-scenes, but you will see me at every club meeting helping to run things (and cleaning paintbrushes. It turns out I’m pretty good at that). I was very new to studio art when the club was started this past year (aka my only exposure to it was through middle school art classes), so I’ve had an awesome time learning how to use all the different media we explore in club meetings. I suspect that some of you reading this may be in the same boat as me when it comes to studio art knowledge, so please come to our meetings and we can all learn together about art and how not to overuse parentheses in our writing (a new thing I learned about myself while writing this paragraph is that I love parentheses (also we’re not a writing club but if you want to help me out with this please do because I need help)). I hope to see you guys this upcoming term!

With much love and parentheses,

Anne

Hello lovelies!

My name is Anna, and I am the treasurer of CAS and a member of the class of 2019. I originally became interested in art through drawing pokemon on the walls of Musser, and I've hardly painted or drawn anything but pokemon since. So if you want to make an oil painting of a cyndaquil or draw a Mew with oil pastels, then you've come to the right place. Actually, even if there was a time you drew a cool stick figure and got some enjoyment out of that you should come to CAS.

Stay awesome!

CASers—

I'm incredibly excited to share the upcoming terms creating with every one of you. As we spend this time exploring our creative selves, I look forward to learning about your worldviews, inspirations, and aspirations. My perception of the world is heavily influenced by art; as a child, I was inspired by countless artists and the simple forms of beauty that surrounded me. As I progress into adulthood, I hope to give back and release art into the universe that will spark curiosity and spur creativity in other people. Likewise, I hope to become increasingly inspired by those around me, and I have no doubt that you all will aid me in this step of my journey.
